David Onder
Business Intelligence Analyst
David Onder joined the Office of Institutional Research and Planning in February
2007 as a Business Intelligence Analyst. David had been a teacher for the past
four and one-half years, working mostly at the high school level. His most
recent work was with the Buncombe County Early College in Asheville, NC. David
taught mathematics (Algebra 1 and 2 and Geometry) as well as worked with the
school web page, the course schedule, helping in various technical capacities
and was a member of Buncombe County Schools Website Advisory Committee.
David started his career working for IBM in Research Triangle Park, NC as a programmer, working on IBM's TCP/IP product for mainframes. He also worked on a printing product and then worked for a time on IBM's web server for the mainframe. David decided to follow the print product to Colorado in 1996 and worked at the IBM facilty in Boulder, CO on various print products, both on the mainframe and on the AIX platform. David led a translation of the mainframe print product into Japanese before leaving the company in 1998.
David and his wife then moved back to North Carolina and he starting working with Mission Hospitals supporting the Heart Services division before moving into work with Computer Services. With Heart Services, David was responsible for supporting the PCs in the division as well as some of the computer systems used by the Cardiovascular Operating Room and the Catheterization Laboratory. He worked with the Research Department supporting the database system used to collect data for the various national databases in the cardiac field and was also a member of the hospital committee charged with the task of selecting a new hospital medical records system, which was selected in 2000. With Computer Services, David worked with staff throughout the hospital helping them with hardware and software problems.
David earned his undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science magna cum laude from Youngstown State University in 1992. He received his Master of Arts in Education in 2004 from Western Carolina University, specializing in secondary mathematics education. He hopes to pursue a PhD in the near future.
In his life outside of work, David has been married to Rebecca since 1994 and
they have one cat, Mittens Nibble-Toes. Rebecca is a nurse with Mission
Hospitals working in Cardiac Rehabilitation. She is originally from
Waynesville and grew up in the house next door to where they currently live,
though she has lived in various cities in Tennessee and North Carolina before
marrying him. David grew up in Austintown, OH but moved away after graduating
from college. Since then, he and his wife have lived in Raleigh, NC and
Longmont, CO, and currently live in Waynesville, NC. David enjoys hiking
(especially along Horsepasture River) and camping and loves to watch baseball
and football. Please do not ask him to do ANYTHING the weekend Ohio State
plays Michigan in football -- he will NOT be available.
